Exploring Western Mysticism with Simeon Bruce

Session 2 of 3

One unifying claim within Western Mysticism is that some knowledge is inaccessible to the intellect, and that we can learn truths about ourselves and about God through contemplation, the emotions, and sensory experiences like gazing upon icons, listening to music, or being in nature. This claim does not discredit enlightenment ideas like reason, logic, and evidence, but acknowledges that some truths are discovered in different ways.

In this brief series, Simeon Bruce will lead us through a discussion of three different women in the mystical tradition of the West: Margery Kempe, Thérèse of Lisieux, and Hildegard von Bingen. In the company of these women, we will come to appreciate the diverse roads to union with God that they have mapped out for us.
