Session 1: Arising Out of the Dust: The Life and Ministry of Absalom Jones with Des Dorsey
We’ll explore together the life and ministry of Absalom Jones, the first Black person to be ordained a priest in the Episcopal Church (1805).
Born as an enslaved person, Jones became a prominent abolitionist after gaining his freedom and subsequently founded the first Black church in Philadelphia. All Saints’ member Des Dorsey will lead this class to help us gain a greater understanding of Absalom Jones and his importance in the history of Black people in the Episcopal Church.
