Threads Sunday and Shoe Drive!

Sunday, 3/13/22

About the Event

All ChurchChildcareService and Social Justice

On Sunday, March 13 we will lift up Threads, one of our four core ministries, during our worship services and during a celebratory reception. Join us for a tour of the beautiful shop and for a reception in the Tate Hall courtyard.

The mission of Threads is to provide children in need with clean, well-fitting clothes and footwear. As part of this celebration, please bring donations of new sneakers. Since the beginning of this winter season, Threads has given away about 300 pairs of new sneakers and we would love to give away 300 more!

A few things to keep in mind when selecting a pair of shoes to donate:

  • Sneakers, please!
  • Slip-on styles are great for kids
  • We are especially in need of children's size 10 and above
  • We'll also accept adult-sized shoes
  • All shoes must be NEW
  • We're looking for VARIETY, so pick out something fun and different!

From Lori Guarisco, Coordinator of Threads:

BABY NEEDS SHOES!!

So does Threads—lots of shoes. Let’s continue to make sure every child that shops at Threads is going home with a new pair of shoes. Our shoe sources have literally dried up and Threads needs your help to make sure we have plenty of beautiful quality shoes for boys and girls on hand at all times.

On March 13, please join our celebration of Threads Sunday by bringing your donation of new sneakers to church. (Of course, shoes can be dropped off at Threads at other times as well.)

The last Threads Sunday was March 8, 2020. We celebrated with strawberry shortcake and an art-filled courtyard of “footprints” and other vibrant signs made by a nice group of Girl Scouts. At that time Threads was considering our personal “footprint” not just our environmental impact, (yes, we are very much in the recycling business), but we were asking, "what is the best way to walk forward?"

And of course, we looked back and saw how far we had come, from John Lewis cutting the ribbon on Opening Day to partnering with some of the most impactful agencies working in Atlanta today to help families in need. As we ate our cake and patted ourselves on the back, we all felt proud of how beautiful and well stocked the shop was. It was lovely to have the shop full of dedicated volunteers and new visitors. We took a deep look at how this terrific ministry could step forward into greater service in the years to come. Then we were literally stopped in our tracks by the pandemic!

Today, Threads currently serves an average of 22 kids per week. Since the beginning of this winter season, Threads has given away about 300 pairs of new sneakers. If this shoe drive could generate 300 more pair of beautiful shoes, that would be thrilling!!

What kind of shoes you ask? Sneakers, sneakers, sneakers. We are looking for variety, quality and style! We need ALL sizes for both girls and boys. Toddler shoes from size 5 through big kids shoes and adult size shoes as well. Most children over 10 are into adult sizes all ready. Please consider the quality as this may be the only pair of shoes this child has.

We all know the saying, “to wear lots of hats." Well, Threads “wears lots of shoes.” For 16 years we have made sure that kids have warm coats and school uniforms, that moms with newborns have bathtubs, tons of onesies, warm blankets and—of course—a new pair of shoes.

Please join the volunteers, clergy and the All Saints' staff on March 13 to celebrate Threads Sunday as we continue to serve our extended community with one pair of shoes at a time!
