Dear saints, One of the ironies of God and human history is that the Creator of all that there is, the Almighty, most often goes unnoticed. In light of this, some Christian spiritual teachers such as Brother Lawrence, suggest that we need to practice the presence of God. We need to practice faith, like we might practice basketball or knitting. God doesn't just jump into view every time we say "Our Father..." What might it look like for you to practice the presence of God this week? There is no shortage of opinions about what the world needs and no shortage either of people to disagree with them. What might be in shorter supply, however, are people who drink from deeper wells, people who have practiced what it looks like to live expecting the divine presence to show up any minute now. You and I are called to be such people. That's what a saint is - someone, who marked as Christ's own forever—someone that knows who they belong to. Whether you are traveling near, far or not at all this coming week for Thanksgiving, I hope that you will have an opportunity to notice the presence of God come into view. Perhaps it will come in slowing down from the busyness of daily life, or around a table big enough to fit all of the opinions you expect will join for dinner that night. However you catch a glimpse of it, I pray that you will receive, in that divine presence, the encouragement you need to practice it more. For this, and every good gift, thanks be to God. Peace,
