Dear saints,

I write with news of transition in our music ministry. Brendan Connor, our Associate Director of Music has accepted a position as Director of Music at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Wilmington, North Carolina. We send Brendan forth with our love and support, as well as encouragement for him as he takes this next step in his career. I want to thank Brendan for keeping us informed of his search process, allowing us to conduct a concurrent search for his replacement, which included conversations with several excellent candidates.

Indeed, we are moving from strength to strength. As we thank Brendan on Sunday, August 6, we will also welcome our new Associate Director of Music, Justin Maxey. Justin earned a master’s degree in organ performance from the Eastman School of Music and he plays with sensitivity, passion, and flair. He has a great love for our received Anglican traditions, deep connections with the Atlanta choral community and he has the capacity to help us gently expand our offerings through his phenomenal piano skills and ecumenical background. We are confident that the choir will continue to flourish under his leadership this fall and we look forward to the nationwide search for a new Director of Music, commencing in September of this year.

As you can imagine, it is a delicate task to make such a significant hire while our Rector is on sabbatical. We are assured that Simon trusts us to make decisions in the best interest of All Saints’ and I wish to share gratitude to the committee that advised on this decision: Nancy Dodson, Ellen Hayes, Karol Kimmel, Craig Cleland, and Mary Wyche Lesesne. We also kept in close touch with our Senior Warden, Louisa Johnson.  Below, you may read Justin’s note of introduction to the parish and I ask you to join us in prayer for him and for Brendan as we move through a healthy transition in music leadership. We can’t wait for you to hear Justin play!

Sincerely,

Andy+
