Dear saints,

One of the hallmarks of discipleship is transformation through God’s grace. When we try on the ethics of Jesus– which is what it means to be a disciple– we step into a lifelong journey that will change us. As members of this amazing Christian community, we join fellow pilgrims who share our journey, and we find opportunities to practice discipleship together.

This Sunday, we thank God especially for the ministry of Covenant Community, which is a “life-stabilization residential program for men experiencing homelessness and recovering from substance abuse.” We’ll hear some of their stories of transformation, and we’ll make sandwiches together for our neighbors.

My experience working with the graduates of Covenant Community has been transformative. I have heard people describe every single day as a blessing from God, and I know they’re not exaggerating. I have been inspired to reflect on my own need for God’s grace. I have been humbled and blessed by people whose lives are being changed in remarkable ways. Many of you have experienced these gifts of relationship with the Men of Hope as well.

What a joy it will be to worship and serve together this Sunday.

Peace,

This Sunday

Labyrinth Ministry at All Saints’

Sunday, September 11, 4:30 p.m., Kennedy Courtyard

Celebrate the opening of our hearts to the fall season, to the honoring of lives lost on 9/11, to new beginnings and summer memories. Walk the labyrinth in the spirit of pilgrimage: release what no longer serves you, receive what nurtures your open heart, renew your spirit, and remember your journey. The All Saints’ labyrinth, adapted from the 13th century design on the floor of Chartres Cathedral in France, represents an archetype for our soul’s journey, with the twists and turns of our life. Labyrinth walks take place in Kennedy Courtyard (rain location: Ellis Hall) and are accompanied by live music. When planning your visit, please allow approximately 20 minutes for your walk.

Make New Friends with Foyer Groups

One of the very best ways to get to know fellow parishioners in a big church like All Saints is through informal, small dinner group gatherings at one another’s homes. The groups formed are a great mix—single, married, of a varied status and age. Many close friendships have been formed through these great dinner gatherings; it’s a perfect, low-key way to make connections. Signups will be at the Parish Life table until mid-September or you can register online at the All Saints' website. For more information contact Barbara Blender at bblender@bellsouth.net or Sherry Collins at sherry_collins@bellsouth.net.

Mike Carscaddon Matthew 25 Ministry Fund

“Share in the Movement that was set up for you…for I was hungry and you shared your food with me; I was a stranger and you welcomed me; ragged and you clothed me; sick and you nursed me. I was in jail and you stood by me." Then the people of justice will answer…”when did we see you hungry and share our food, or thirsty and share our water? When did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or ragged and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in jail, and stand by you?” and the Leader of the Movement will reply, “When you did it to one of these humblest…you did it to me.”
- Matthew 25, New Testament translation by Clarence Jordan, Cotton Patch Gospel.

Refugees Ministries: Swimming Buddies

Saturday, September 10, all day, Lake Jackson

Cool off with Refugee Ministries this summer and enjoy some swimming fun in the sun with our refugee friends. This is a great opportunity for families with children, and we can provide service hours for teens. We also need volunteers to transport our refugee friends; drivers must be at least 25 years old. For locations and more information, contact Louisa Merchant.

Refugee Ministries: Welcome a New Family to the United States

The first three months after arrival are often very challenging for a newly arrived refugee family. We invite volunteers aged 25 and over (who are welcome to bring families and friends, including children, to any outing) to offer three resettlement activities for a new family to be completed over a period of six months.

September Parish Wide Threads FALL Clothing Drive

• Requesting donations of gently used or new Children’s clothing for both Boys and Girls, infant through size 18 and small adult clothing in preparation for RE-Opening Threads for in-shop shopping in October. The School Uniform Event was a huge success, with 400 children served with clothing and shoes. However, that left Threads with low inventory so we need a Clothing Drive now!

• Donation boxes are located on the first floor of the Pritchett Center and in the first-floor stairwell between Ellis Hall and Egleston Hall.

• Please consider talking to neighbors and family and asking them to donate too! You may also think about involving your children’s extracurricular groups, scouts, or sports teams as well.

Questions? Contact Lori Guarisco at threads@allsaintsatlanta.org.

Share a Meal with the Men of Covenant Community

Mondays, September 5 and September 12

Covenant Community is a great ministry that provides residential drug treatment for homeless men struggling with addiction. From the time it was founded at All Saints' over 30 years ago, our parishioners have provided dinner to share with the residents of Covenant Community. Please consider breaking bread with them on a Monday night. You could bring dinner yourself, with friends, or even co-workers. Children are also welcome to join! Meals for around 15 people can either be shared with the men inside the residence or they can be dropped off during the day. The available dates are September 5 and 12.
