Dear saints,
It seems strange in a way for the church to keep on keeping on with its usual ecclesiastical activities - like this Sunday's annual parish meeting - while on the news we hear of such terrible and heartbreaking events like the mass shooting in Buffalo, NY. While life is snatched away so cruelly, we might well ask as the old Quaker hymn goes, 'how can I keep on singing?' Yet we do keep on singing, and praying, and gathering as we will this weekend to elect from our number parishioners who will lead the church in this place as vestry members. We do so, not to escape the worries of the world, but to fortify ourselves to face them. In a time when there is so much focus on what divides us, to be a community that prizes and celebrates the beauty of diversity and the strength we find in being an all sorts community on so many levels is no small thing. A world where someone wakes up with murder on their mind is a malformed world. Life together as we know it in the church is our opportunity to re-form that world, starting with ourselves. Let our hearts weep with those who weep for those lost at the hands of others, from Buffalo to Mariupol, and may the church be our place to offer a better vision for human flourishing.
Peace, |

Vacation Bible School - Water, Water Everywhere!
Monday through Friday, May 30 – June 3, The Attic, Kennedy Courtyard
Water is so important in God’s Word that it is mentioned 722 times in the Bible, more often than faith, hope, prayer, and worship. Join us for a water-themed Vacation Bible School 9:00am-12:pm, with aftercare 12:00-5:00 each day. Rising Kindergartners through 5th grade are welcome, 6th - 12th grade are welcome to be counselors. Come be in relationship with our young Saints at our Water, Water Everywhere Vacation Bible School as a volunteer with games, science, crafts, and story time or help us with snacks, decorating or cleaning up. You can help one or two days or all week! We can't do it without our church family and you will get to know some folks you may not usually hang out with at church. If you are having trouble with the online form, I will have a paper registration form in the courtyard this Sunday. We need to know numbers by this Sunday, so please sign up as soon as possible.

Giving: Surpassing Goals Again
May is Remember the Church Offering month
Remember how we used to bring some cash for the offering plate to church? Let’s remember to tuck a few dollars in our pockets for Sunday morning. The Varsity next door may have a sign out “We are a cashless facility” but the church welcomes each and every gift. Join me and put some money in the plate instead of giving the “No Thanks” hand when the plate gets passed.
Make a pledge or gift today! Thank you.

All Saints' April Vestry Summary
All Saints’ Vestry met on April 24, 2022, in person and by Zoom. Following a time for centering prayer, Mary Jo Bryan gave the Clerk’s Report. Nancy Dodson, in Sheldon Taylor’s absence, provided the Treasurer’s Report, highlighting that pledge payments are ahead for the year, that the church received payments for third-party use of Ellis Hall and parking, and that an insurance claim has been made for the water heater that burst in the Pritchett Center. Dan Pennywell gave an update on the Vestry nominating committee, and Simon Mainwaring announced the formation of the Leadership Team that will lead the parish in a year-long period of discernment into the future of the church’s mission and ministries. The Leadership Team will be chaired by Lynda Herrig, and consists of five Vestry members and six at-large members. The Leadership Team will be assisted by the Rev. Dr. Dwight Zscheile, in a consultant’s role for the year. The Vestry also discussed the plans for Simon Mainwaring’s sabbatical during the summer of 2023 and how the parish might use the time for its own reflections and renewal. The Vestry elected Alvin Moore and Elizabeth Diedrich to fill the unexpired terms of Charlene Smith-Stewart, who passed away and Des Dorsey, who resigned. The annual meeting is set for Sunday, May 22, 2022, and the next Vestry meeting is set for Monday, May 23, 2022 at 4:30 PM. |
