Dear saints,
MAC is back! We are delighted to share that Midtown Assistance Center is returning to All Saints’, where it began its life of ministry to Atlanta’s working poor in 1986. Since then, MAC has grown in so many ways yet remains true to its original mission of preventing homelessness and hunger by offering assistance with rent, utilities, food, work shoes, tools, and public transportation. While MAC’s current home at Atlanta First Methodist Church goes through a multi-year redevelopment project, we will make the most of MAC’s presence on the block, especially in how our other core ministries will now be able to work even closer with them.
MAC will be located in our buildings on Spring Street, currently being renovated to be fit for that purpose. I invite you to join us this Sunday to hear from Jenny Jobson, Executive Director and Ciara Castenell, Partnerships Director and to pray for all whose lives will be lifted by MAC’s ministry among us.
Peace, |

Joy
By Penny Smith (1935-2008, Jr. Warden of All Saints’, 2001)
"It is not the steeple, nor even the people—though mostly lovely, dear and real—that open my heart with thanksgiving for All Saints’. It is the joy that begins to rise in me whenever I set foot on that sacred space.
Even if I don’t want to drive downtown to the church, the joy never fails to come, maybe instantly, maybe subtly, more slowly. This fact surprises me, but it shouldn’t—for I have known every sort of valuable and authentic human experience there.
I have been graced with hilarious laughter, suffocating sorrow, sobering self-knowledge with both shame and pride, tears, healing, the filling of my senses with color, sound, aroma, texture, taste and frequently ineffable quietness in the deepest part of my being.
I love All Saints’ because it is a home to my body, soul and spirit. Mysteriously, I am met there time and time again. Honestly, the JOY unfailingly keeps appointments—even if I have gone there resistant, recalcitrant, expecting nothing. What is not to be thankful for in a place like that!" |
