Dear saints,
Grace and peace to you this Good Friday. It is strange to think of something so prosaic like email on a day as set apart from the everyday as this one. 'Stop all the clocks, cut off the telephone' is how W. H. Auden's mournful poetry tells it. Things should not be the same. Yet, they are. And therein lies the challenge for us as people of this faith, that we might mark time differently even within the world's relentless forward movement. Today we proclaim to the world what is for some a blasphemous thought, that God has been crucified. Email doesn't seem to match that sort of audacity. So, how might you offer something more personal today? How might you mark time this Good Friday? You are always welcome here, as we shroud the cross and tell the story of Jesus' passion and death. Perhaps, though, you will pause where you are for a moment, and pray, or read a poem, or simply be still.
Stop all the clocks. Cut off the telephone. This day is holy ground.
Peace,
