Dear saints,
This week, Monica and I had the privilege to view a screening of 'Monument: The Untold Story of Stone Mountain' at the Atlanta History Center. You can watch the documentary on the History Center's website here. All Saints' parishioners Sheffield Hale (who runs the History Center) and Emory professor Joe Crespino both feature in the film, a contribution that will allow thousands of people to reflect on how we deal with memory and race in this part of the world.
I hope you'll be interested in watching 'Monument' yourself and ask how the contribution you make to the life we all share also might offer an opening for others to think and act with deeper intention. As people of an ancient tradition, we are well suited to such things, invited as we are to see the past as an opportunity for growth.
Perhaps this Dr. Martin Luther King Jnr. weekend you might pause to ask yourself how you most would like to grow. I know for my own part the answers to that question are many, so I will just have to choose. After all, one more step forward is the only way the jounrey continues, until in the words of a great man we can all say that we are 'free at last'.
Peace,
