Dear saints,

Tomorrow we will gather once more to hear the message of the angels in song and prayer and in that wonderful assortment of saints who fill the church on Christmas Eve. It remains my favorite day of the church's year, the time when the sheer audacity of Christian theology is writ large in the claim that God would come as one of us. Being audacious for the purposes of God is, though, exactly what we are called to be. We should expect of the world more grace, more mercy, more forgiveness, more wonder, more holiness - a greater sense that in the everyday rhythm of our lives God's glory will break in, often when we need it most or expect it least.

Wherever you will be celebrating the birth of Christ tomorrow night, I pray that you will know that grace and love alive in your heart and life and all those whom you love.

Christmas blessings,

CHRISTMAS EVE
