A Reminder to Spring Forward

Daylight saving time begins this weekend, so don't forget to set your clocks forward by one hour on Saturday night!

Dear saints,

Have you ever wondered what it might be like never to have worn a new pair of shoes? For the first 60 or so years of its existence, the school I taught at in north-east India had a policy of no shoes for its children. There in the Himalayan foothills in the first half of the last century such a policy seemed to make sense. It reflected the green idyll the school campus formed, perched 5000 feet up on a grassy hillside. It was only as the children began to travel further afield for school activities that they realized how not having a pair of shoes to call their own undermined the children's self-esteem. That was a world away from today, yet there are children right here in Atlanta who have never known what it is like to go to school, or play sports wearing a pair of shoes that only they have ever worn. Threads, one of our core ministries which we will celebrate this Sunday, wants to close that gap, clothing children with dignity as its mission states. I hope that you will hear this weekend a new way that you might feel called to support the work of Threads. Perhaps you may also see a way for this ministry to grow? Threads helps us be bridges of hope for those looking for an opportunity to make headway on their journey out of poverty. Let us pray for this work, and let us join our hands so more children can find the beauty they carry within reflected in the beauty of the clothing they wear.

Peace,

Concert: The Songs of Lent

Saturday, April 2, 7:30 p.m., in the church

This concert explores early eighteenth-century expressions of lament appropriate for the season, including the poignant "Lamentations of Jeremiah" as set by François Couperin.

The music will come to life in the voices of countertenors Nathan Medley and Daniel Moody, both noted for their expertise with early music. Cain-Oscar Bergeron joins the Baroque band on the traverso, a wooden instrument preceding the Western concert flute. Joanna Blendulf will play the viola da gamba, similar to the cello but fretted like a guitar, and Kirk Rich will showcase the All Saints’ harpsichord.

Giving
The season of Lent can be a good time to reflect on our own lives and consider estate planning.

The All Saints’ Cornerstone Society recognizes parishioners who have included the church in their planned giving.

On a practical level, estate planning encourages us to have important conversations with our loved ones about the kind of legacy we want to leave when we die. Estate planning is considered to be a spiritual practice that can lead us to a more abundant life here and now.
