A Note From the Rector
Dear saints,
What does the world need of the church right now? That has been the question present on my heart these past many days as our city groans with the pain of too many years of racial injustice. Violence for violence's sake, looting for looting's sake, trouble for trouble's sake is not a solution to any problem that we might face. Yet, as Dr. King reminds us, riots are the language of the unheard. What does the world need of the church right now? It needs to know that we hear, that we are listening, and that we long for change because we long for God's kingdom to come on the earth. Why do we long for justice and for dignity for every human being? Put very simply, because we care. This Eastertide this church community, amid one of the most seismic economic crises in modern history, raised a remarkable $28,275 for causes and needs your vestry identified among our neighbors in Atlanta. Those neighbors live in places in our city where God's beloved people have felt unheard year after year, like Vine City, English Avenue and Peoplestown. Because you cared, we were able to act. That is my heartfelt invitation to each of you: let us care to listen, to learn, to grow, and to change so that the future of this city and of our nation might be a better reflection of the kind of communion God calls us into. Your beautiful act of generosity in Eastertide can be our promissory note to that kind of future. The Spirit is moving among us. Let us hear what the Spirit is saying to God's people.
Peace,

Dear saints,
It brings me great joy to share the news that All Saints' Youth Minister, Joel Smith, will be continuing on staff in a full-time capacity beginning June 1. This move from part-time to full-time staff member follows his recent graduation from Georgia State University, where he completed undergraduate studies in psychology and religion. With many years of experience as participant, counselor, and staff leader at Camp Mikell, our regional Episcopal camp, Joel brings a wealth of experience in building Christian community among teenagers through facilitating warm and inclusive environments where friendships can flourish and faith can take root.
For the past three years, Joel has served our middle and high schoolers and their families with enthusiasm, humor, and a genuine passion for walking with young people as they find their place within the Body of Christ. In addition to providing a steady presence for ongoing Sunday youth programs, Joel has revitalized our acolyte teams, pioneered the Wednesday Night Supper counselors program, developed a vital ministry presence on social media, and built strong bridges with our children's ministries through participating in choir trips and events with Club 45 (our 4th and 5th grade group).
Joel has often been described as embodying a peculiar gift of winsome connection with youth alongside a depth and maturity beyond his years. Even and especially in these uncertain times, we are thrilled to lift up Joel in his ministry, as we continue building the "village" together. I give thanks for this opportunity to continue learning and growing with Joel as we journey together into the future God has prepared.
Congratulations, Joel!
Peace,
Zack+

All Saints' Cares Update
At the beginning of May we celebrated the start of our All Saints' Cares initiative for Eastertide. Now that the season has drawn to a close, we want to thank everyone for their remarkable acts of love, which includes hundreds of lunches, all sorts of supplies and over $28,275 in monetary donations. Beyond Eastertide, these ministries will continue to have needs to which you may wish to respond. To get involved, visit allsaintsatlanta.org/all-saints-cares. For more information, contact Jill Gossett at jgossett@allsaintsatlanta.org.
Share a Meal with the Men of Covenant Community
(on Zoom)
There is still a way to help with the Monday dinners for Covenant Community while quarantine restrictions are still in effect. Although it will be a while before visitors will be allowed to join the men to break bread, the following protocol has been suggested by CCI's Executive Director, Johnathan Davis. For the foreseeable future, dinner will need to be dropped off at the front door on Spring Street. After dinner, the men would very much like to do a Zoom meeting with the parishioner so that everyone could get together online. Available dates are: June 8, 15, 22, 29. For more information, contact Barbara Blender at bblender@bellsouth.net.
