A Note From the Rector
Dear saints,
Memorial Day weekend will mean a lot of different things to Americans all across the country this year. For those with kids in our part of the world, this weekend is the beginning of summer vacation, a reality which will either be raising or lowering your blood pressure around now depending how America's great homeschooling experiment has gone down in your particular household. Some of us will be traveling to cooler climes, and working out revised summer plans. Yet all of us can give thanks for those who serve, especially those who serve and put themselves in harm's way by doing so. We should remember those who serve in uniform, for families who will miss them now deployed and most of all for those whose loss is remembered this Memorial Day. Sacrificial service is most often hidden from plain sight by its very nature. It happens in settings and among people most of us are unlikely to see. I thank God for all those who serve the greater good, here and across the world. Selflessness and duty can seem like qualities in shorter supply in an age when leadership seems so quick to refer to the achievements of the leader rather than the dignity and worth of the led. Yet, beneath the surface of all of that noise, we share a remarkable life together with people all around us who give unto others every day. May that spirit of sacrificial service be our walking prayer this Memorial Day weekend, as we follow the servant King, with thanksgiving for those who put themselves last.
Peace,

An Update from Refugee Ministries: Thank You for your Generosity!
Since sheltering in place began on March 13, Refugee Ministries has received an astounding $8,000 in donations from 22 parishioner donors and a $600 gift from St. Luke's Chapter. We continue to provide financial assistance to former refugee families in need of emergency food, and next month we will begin providing emergency rent and utilities assistance now that we have enough funds. We also raised over $10,000 in one day from 25 donors for the educational fund for Mang Bor Cin, the daughter of our 2016 resettlement family from Myanmar. Mang Bor Cin has been accepted to Georgia Tech. She will start this fall and her family is overjoyed that your generosity will allow her to pursue her dream of becoming a physician. If you're interested in learning more about her story, watch this video interview she made with All Saints' parishioner and Refugee Ministries volunteer Steve Heckler. For more information, contact Louisa Merchant at louisam@allsaintsatlanta.org.
Break Bread with the Men of Covenant Community
(on Zoom)
Many parishioners have asked how they could help with the Monday dinners for Covenant Community during this difficult time. Although it will be a while before visitors will be allowed to join the men to break bread, the following protocol has been suggested by CCI's Executive Director, Johnathan Davis. For the foreseeable future, dinner would need to be dropped off at the front door on Spring Street. After dinner the men would very much like to do a Zoom meeting with the parishioner so that everyone could virtually get together. Available dates are: May 25, June 8, 15, 22, 29.
For more information, contact Barbara Blender at bblender@bellsouth.net.
