A Note From the Rector

Dear saints,

This Sunday is Mother's Day - just as a reminder in case you are behind schedule on making a mother in your life feel loved this weekend. In addition to being a day we give thanks for mothers, Mother's Day has historically been the Sunday a bishop comes to All Saints' for confirmation. It's also a day when some of us would elect to reaffirm our confirmation while others would choose to be received into the Episcopal Church from another Christian tradition. All of it offers to the rest of us a salutary reminder that the life we share in the church is a life of commitment. But commitment to what? The pursuit of justice or the greater good? Lifelong learning and growth? Deep and rich community? Personal transformation? All of the above for many of us, and much more besides, are the core values of our faith as we express it in community with others. We might think of such things as the essence of what it means for us to be Christians, sources of unity and identity that bishops exist to remind of us. I pray that, absent a bishop's visitation this weekend, you will be able to name for yourself something of the essence of All Saints' in your life. This is a time when being able to name what matters most is indeed an essential task. May God give you clarity and conviction in that, and may the Holy Spirit prompt those of you planning to celebrate a mother this Sunday to lavish just a little extra love on them in this time when more of that goes a long way.

Peace,

 Giving
Giving

Along with practicing our faith at All Saints', we practice generosity

Right now there is an outpouring of care for those in need - care that takes many forms: making face masks, donating gift cards, and providing meals, to name a few.

Sharing financial gifts - even in this time of pandemic - is important as the church reaches out to our community and beyond.

If you are able, continue to give. We thank you.
Text allsaintsatlanta to 73256 to pay pledges or give gifts. You can also set up a login to our online directory and mobile app, ChurchLife at allsaintsatlanta.org/giving.

Thank you!

Need a new recipe?
Postponing the All Saints' Women's Retreat has not stopped this amazing group of fifty women from bonding over shared love of food! We've been sharing favorite recipes over email. Here's this week's recipe:

Thai Coconut Chicken
Submitted by Nixon Lowe

Ingredients:
  • 2 tsps canola oil
  • 1 lb. skinless, boneless chicken breast, cut into 1/2 strips (I usually buy a package at store that is always more than a lb. and use all of it)
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 onion
  • 2 garlic cloves (always use more)
  • 1 tsp grated fresh ginger (I typically add more - gives great flavor)
  • 1 tbsp light brown sugar
  • 2 tsps Thai red curry paste (In thai section at Publix, super hot but I do add a little more)
  • 1 tsp ground cumin (I do heaping tsp)
  • Asparagus cut into small pieces diagonally (I use different amounts depending on what other veggies I add)
  • 1 can unsweetened coconut milk (I typically buy 2 cans and if I think I need more because I add more veggies, I add more milk)
  • 1 tsp fish sauce (in Thai section)
  • Fresh basil (I love basil so I typically use approx 1-2 tbsp chopped)
Instructions:

1. Heat oil in large nonstick skillet. Add chicken and sprinkle with salt. Saute until browned and cooked through, about 5 mins. Transfer to plate. (I typically saute at a lower heat for longer to make sure it does not get tough and it is more tender.)
2. Heat remaining tsp oil in same skillet over low heat. Saute onion, garlic and ginger. About 6 mins until fragrant and softened. Stir in sugar, curry past, cumin. Cook 1 min, stirring constantly. Add asparagus, milk, and fish sauce. Bring to boil.  Reduce heat and simmer, covered until asparagus is tender, about 3 mins.
3. Add chicken and basil, heat through.  Serve over rice.

Refugee Ministries: Help Mang Bor Cin Attend Georgia Tech and Fulfill Her Dream to Become a Doctor

Mang Bor Cin is the oldest daughter from the Ceu Hu/Sui Ei family from Myanmar, one of our refugee resettlement families who arrived in October 2016. With the steadfast love of her parents (who themselves never got to attend school) and the encouragement and prayers of many in our church, Bor Cin is graduating next month from Clarkston High with a 3.9 GPA in a demanding course load. She has been accepted to her dream school, Georgia Tech, where she plans to become a neurologist and provide care in underserved communities.

Despite receiving a HOPE scholarship, a Pell Grant, and federal loans, her package at Georgia Tech has still come up $10,000/year short, far more than she can make up by working during school. She will be the first in her family to attend college and she and her family would enormously appreciate any support you can give. If you'd like to donate,  please click here and in the drop down menu where it allows you to designate a ministry please choose "Ref Min College Fund."

Thank you so much for helping a very talented young woman who has overcome so many obstacles to achieve her dream.

For more information, contact Louisa Merchant at louisam@allsaintsatlanta.org.
