 A Note From the Rector
Dear saints,
You will read below words from the Executive Director of Covenant Community, Johnathan Davis, that he is leaving All Saints' to take up an exciting new role in Washington D.C. It is certainly their gain. Through Johnathan's years of leadership at Covenant, a successful campaign to raise the funds to purchase and furnish Sterne House was completed, giving the men of Covenant a beautiful transitional place to call home between their residency on the block and the beginning off their next chapter of life. On the block, the program has grown tremendously with the piloting of a Recovery Community Organization, offering programs for hundreds of people per month. We give thanks for Johnathan, and we give thanks for the miracles this parish has been witness to because of Covenant's mission and ministry. Forty years ago this church opened a night shelter. Ten years later it became Covenant Community, which today can look to so many families whose lives have been changed for the better because the people of All Saints' said yes. So, as we say yes with thanksgiving for Johnathan's legacy at Covenant, may we say yes to the future God calls us into with this work. The miracle is still happening on and off the block. Praise be to God for that indescribable gift.
Peace,

September 12, 2016 began a new world for me. It was my first day as Director of Covenant Community. I remember waking up that morning full of excitement and with a ton of butterflies in my stomach. It was my first time back in the nonprofit arena after several years in state government and my first time being the person signing the checks. Greeted with smiles, hugs, BBQ and macaroni and cheese, I knew this was the place for me.
However, the invitation to this new world didn't stop there. I begin to meet a host of people who were passionate about the work of Covenant and who were parishioners of the church behind us. More food, more smiles, more hugs but not enough macaroni and cheese. However, I felt at home. I felt that God had called me to a place that was layered with a community of love, faith and camaraderie. Over the past 4 years, I've seen Covenant and All Saints' partner in ways that has literally saved lives. And it has been absolutely a privilege to be a part of that work! With sadness and great joy, I have decided to relocate to Washington, D.C. I've been appointed as Deputy Administrator for the Dept. of Human Services in D.C. I will be working within the District to reform its homelessness and social service systems. I will greatly appreciate your thoughts and prayers as I begin another new world. Please know that I am forever thankful for the love that has been shown to me and the care in which All Saints have had for Covenant throughout the years. The board and staff at Covenant remain committed and passionate for the work and is preparing the way for a new Director. We would greatly appreciate your prayers during this process. Covenant and All Saints'... such well-timed grace for our city! This is definitely not a good bye... and I will see you all for online services!

Reaching Out Into the Community with Refugee Ministries
"All Saints' is a place where miracles happen, miracles of transformed hearts and deeply renewed lives. Yours are those lives. Lives that through God's grace have the power to be the difference within this world that you seek to see."
-Simon Mainwaring
The Annual Canvass: Lifting Through Generosity has received pledges from 350 households. Thank you so much! Our goal is 750 pledges. Please join us in this work of transformation and make your pledge today. Remember: pledge by October 25 to get your name in the bulletin on All Saints' Day, November 1. We must make sure the church has the funds it needs to accomplish our work even if we cannot know today what the status of the pandemic will be in 2021. We know the needs of our community will be great and our resilient spirit will thrive.
And speaking of resilience, enjoy this week's video featuring our Refugee Ministries and if you have questions, don't hesitate to ask us.
In faith and with gratitude,
Danny and Louisa Johnson

Provide a Meal for the Men of Covenant Community
Mondays, October 26, November 2, and November 9
What better way to give back in the spirit of this new season than to help with Monday dinners for Covenant Community. While it is still not possible to join the men inside the residence to share a meal with them, an encouraging protocol has been put in place. Until further notice, dinner can be dropped off at Covenant Community's front door on Spring Street any time during the day. After dinner, the men would very much like to do a Zoom meeting with the parishioner(s) so that everyone could virtually get together. Your participation will be very much appreciated. Please click here to inquire about providing a meal and Barbara Blender will be in touch to help coordinate.
Help Bring Thanksgiving to our Neighbors with Covenant Community, Refugee Ministries, Threads, and Children's MinistriesThis Thanksgiving, the men of Covenant Community are excited to create boxed Thanksgiving meals for former refugee families we serve through our Refugee Ministries program and for the graduates of Covenant Community who live at the Sterne House. In addition, Children's Ministries will make special Blessing Bags to be distributed to our neighbors experiencing homelessness. These bags will include items like protein bars, hand sanitizer, masks, socks, and more; the cost is $20 per bag. Please support these efforts by sponsoring a meal, a Blessing Bag, or both.
