 A Note From the Rector
Dear saints,
Tomorrow is World Mental Health Day. Each year, at this time, I am reminded of work I did now nearly 20 years ago, reading the Bible with groups of people who self-identified as having poor mental health. Because the Bible studies were part of my biblical theology PhD work, it was hard to find a group who would let me in among Boston's mental health providers. Religion and mental illness have not always mixed well. But mix we did, and the insights those readers shared feed me still. One of my favorite lines was actually a comment on the intended inclusiveness of my group reading method, where one reader turned to another and said, 'We all have our opinions here, right 'Dave'?' Yes we do, and praise God for that.
Global recognition of our shared need for good mental health is important, especially in the midst of a pandemic, as is the reminder that each of us has a voice. At its best, the church is home to a myriad of voices, especially those who are often unheard. This Sunday's Faith in the City conversation with Sally Yates will offer us a sense of that and how the aspirations of faith and the American ideals of freedom, justice and patriotism are all works in progress, as are we.
I hope that you can take some time this weekend to attend to your health and to lift up to God the hope for greater wellness in our union as a nation. And please know, whatever needs you might feel are pressing upon your heart, we are here for you.
Peace,

Supporting a City in Need: Your 2021 Annual Canvass Pledges Are Lifting Through Generosity!
There are so many ways your pledges serve our community and the city beyond. Did you know that in 2020 Threads partnered with a new agency before the pandemic called Grateful Hearts? The agency serves mothers who have been incarcerated or have had a child while incarcerated. At Threads they receive a beautiful shopping experience to get what they need for their babies.
"We can't underestimate the potency of our mission to clothe children with dignity," says Threads Coordinator Lori Guarisco.
This week's video focuses on our support of Threads and the many agencies that are served by All Saints' volunteers. The pledges of this parish represent who we are in the world and what we believe in.
Thank you,
Danny and Louisa Johnson
