A Note From the Rector
Dear Saints,
In the middle of the last century H. Richard Niebuhr wrote what would be his seminal work Christ and Culture, a text that has posed a question for the life of faith and the Church ever since: should followers of Jesus seek to move with or oppose culture, somehow be above it or apart from it? The conclusion reached was that the Church's vocation was to be a transformative agent within not beyond culture. All Saints' has played its part in that relationship to culture as our nation, and our city, has expanded its appreciation of the breadth and depth of the human family, for all sexual orientations and gender identities. There are many ways that we might celebrate being an affirming and inclusive church, yet it is clear that our capacity to love and recognize one another is never something that is complete, for we are always a work of faith in progress. This Sunday, I encourage you to join us at the All Parish Forum as we hear from some our own parishioners of their experiences and hopes for how we might become an even more inclusive church for the city whose shalom, in the words of Jeremiah, we have been called to love in all of its glorious diversity.
