As mentioned in Simon’s prior email about the future of our block, the All Saints’ Block Development Committee has been working collaboratively with the Vestry, the Egleston Task Force, and members of other subcommittees as we move into the next phase of the Future of Our Block.
During June and July, we will share a series of communications aimed at providing a concise recap of information already provided as well as more detail on work currently underway.
Through these updates, we aim to offer clear visibility into the collaborative work underway across committees to build a thoughtful set of considerations for the block, and to invite ongoing input and dialogue from the parish community
Included in this email:
- A New Season For All The Saints
- Where We’ve Been
- The Vision
- The Process and How Decisions Are Made
- What The Timeline Looks Like
| | A NEW SEASON FOR ALL THE SAINTS | | |
If you've heard the phrase Future of Our Block and felt a flicker of fatigue — you're not alone. After nearly a decade of listening sessions, surveys, town halls, and deep discernment, we are entering a new chapter in this journey.
This summer, the Block Development Steering Committee will be with you every Monday — distilling what's happening, what's been decided, and what comes next. Our goal is simple: that every member of this parish feels informed, heard, and united as we move toward one of the most significant decisions in All Saints' recent history.
This sacred place has always been common ground. That's exactly what we're building toward.

This journey didn't begin recently. It began with a question asked nearly a decade ago: How is God calling us to be the church in this place, for the generations to come?
In Fall 2018, the Vestry charged a Future of Our Block Steering Committee to lead that discernment — and the work that followed has been among the most extensive in our parish's recent history.
The discernment journey, year by year:
-
2018 — Strategic Plan: To Come to Know, Love, and Serve our Neighbors
-
2019 — Learning Together: listening to the city, neighbors, and other churches
-
2021 — Technical Assistance Panel Report
-
2023 — Parish & Local Community Listening: What's God Up To?
-
2023 — Strategic Plan: A Wider Circle
-
2024 — Parish Engagement: Discerning Our Future Together
-
2024 — Future Church Task Force Report
-
2025 — Future of Our Block Steering Committee Final Report. The Vestry adopted the Campus Master Plan, In the City, For the City
-
Feb 2026 — Perkins & Will selected as architect after a competitive process
-
April 2026 — Full structural assessment of Egleston Hall completed and shared — including three guided parishioner tours
-
Now — A range of design options are being evaluated and costed. A decision is on the horizon.
That's eight years of listening, learning, and discernment — by steering committees, strategic planning teams, a parish engagement committee, and the Vestry — all building toward this moment.

The question at the heart of this work has never really been about brick and mortar. It's this:
What does All Saints' need to be a sacred place and common ground for the next hundred years?
The answer lives in what happens here every single week:
-
Worship and formation — All generations drawn deeper into the life of faith, together
-
Children and youth — The next generation of All Saints' saints, nurtured and known by name
-
World-class music — Extraordinary musicians whose voices and instruments make this block sing
-
MAC, Threads, Covenant Community, Refugee Ministries — Neighbors at the margins, met with faith and determined hope
-
A second front door on West Peachtree — The whole neighborhood welcomed into our common life
-
Our gardens, our magnolia, our common ground — The living, growing parts of this block that belong to all of us
-
A city block where 47 activities happen every week — Continuing a century of faithful presence in the heart of Atlanta for many years to come
It is our sacred place, our common ground. It is for all the saints — those here now, and those still to come.
| | THE PROCESS AND HOW DECISIONS ARE MADE | |
|
Three groups of All Saints’ parishioners are leading this work:
Egleston Task Force Co-chaired by Meg Fogel, Melanie Hardin & Holly Stevens → Evaluating the full range of design options; will bring a formal recommendation to the Vestry
Block Development Steering Committee Chaired by Sheldon Taylor → Overseeing all phases of this work from planning through execution
The Vestry Senior Warden is Briley Brisendine → Receives the Task Force's recommendation and makes the final decision
| | WHAT THE TIMELINE LOOKS LIKE | | |
The Egleston Task Force is working toward a recommendation this summer. An announcement is expected in August. We will share every development as it happens — no surprises.
Between now and then, we'll walk you through the range of options being considered and what each could mean for our common life together. Next week: the building at the heart of this — its history, its damage, and why we must act.
