A Note From the Rector

Dear saints,

Alleluia, Christ is risen! The Lord is risen indeed, Alleluia! Isn't it wonderful to bring the 'Alleluia's' back into our lives. The world could do with some Alleluia's right now, which is good timing because as an Easter people we are ready and able and alive to offer to others the living hope that we know in Christ Jesus. You'll see over the coming weeks of this season of Easter that we will be working creatively to be the serving hands and feet of our Lord for the sake of the city around us. In the meantime, I invite you to take a look at this e-news and ask how Christ might be calling you afresh to seek and serve God in the lives around you. Of course, the best place to start any offering of love is with yourself, recognizing the holy presence of the risen Lord living within the beloved child of God you are. Love draws us forward. Love binds one to another. Love conquers all. We have a faith to live by and a Savior to trust in, and we have one another.

So, Alleluia, dear saints of God; praise be to God for this indescribable gift of life.

Peace,

Interviewing the Saints Project
As many of us have more time to reach out to each other (from home), the children of All Saints' decided to do their very own history project. They would love to interview saints of all ages about how you got to All Saints', your favorite memories here, how you've handled difficult times in life, you favorite Bible verse, etc. We can do these interviews by snail mail, email, phone, FaceTime, or Skype. If you are interested in participating, please send your name, address, email, and phone number to Kathy Roberts at kroberts@allsaintsatlanta.org. She will pair you with a pen pal and you can talk about how you'd like to do the interview. The kids will send a preview of their questions ahead of time so that you have time to prepare!

Need a new recipe?
Postponing the All Saints' Women's Retreat has not stopped this amazing group of fifty women from bonding over shared love of food! We've been sharing favorite recipes over email. Here's this week's recipes:

Pan-Seared Chicken Breast with Rich Pan Sauce
Submitted by Jennifer Brown

Ingredients:
  • 4 (6 ounce)skinless, boneless chicken breast halves
  • 1/2 tsp freshly ground black pepper, divided
  • 3/8 tsp kosher salt, divided
  • 4 tsp olive oil, divided
  • 1 tbs grated onion
  • 1 tsp minced garlic
  • 1 1/2 tsp all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup dry white wine
  • 3/4 cup unsalted chicken stock
  • 1 tbs butter
  • 1/4 tsp sugar
  • 1 tbs chopped fresh flat-leaf parsley

Instructions:

Step 1: Let chicken stand at room temperature for 20 minutes. Sprinkle chicken with 1/4 teaspoon pepper and 1/4 teaspoon salt. Heat a large stainless steel skillet over medium high heat. Add 1 tablespoon oil; swirl to coat. Add chicken to pan, rounded side down; cook 5 minutes. Turn chicken over; reduce heat to medium, and cook 5 minutes or until done. Remove chicken from pan; let stand 5 minutes.

Step 2: Add remaining 1 teaspoon oil, onion, and garlic to pan; sauté 1 minute. Add flour; sauté 30 seconds. Add wine to pan; cook 30 seconds or until liquid almost evaporates, stirring constantly. Stir in stock; bring to a boil, scraping pan to loosen browned bits.  Reduce heat to medium-low; simmer 3 minutes or until reduced to 1/2 cup, stirring occasionally. Remove pan from heat; stir in remaining 1/4 teaspoon pepper and remaining 1/8/ teaspoon salt, butter, and sugar. Sprinkle with parsley.  Jennifer's notes: you may use chicken cutlets; feel free to sub onion powder; sub tarragon for parsley.

Roasted Brussel Sprouts
Submitted by Jennifer Brown

Ingredients:
  • 1 1/2 pounds Brussels sprouts - trimmed and halved
  • 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil plus 1 teaspoon
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions:

Step 1: Place a rack in the upper third of your oven and preheat the oven to 400 degrees F. Place the Brussels sprouts in the center of a large rimmed baking sheet.  Drizzle with the olive oil and sprinkle with salt, pepper, and any other desired spice additions. Gently mix until the Brussels sprouts are evenly coated, then spread them into a single later on the baking sheet. For even better crisping, flip the Brussels sprouts so that they are all cut sides down.

Step 2: Bake for 20-30 minutes, until the Brussels sprouts are lightly charred and crisp on the outside and tender in the center. Watch carefully towards the end of the baking time, as the cooking time will vary based on the size of your sprouts. Season with additional salt and/ or pepper to taste.

Service Opportunities While Social Distancing

We've created a list on our website of potential service opportunities. Please visit allsaintsatlanta.org/service for ways to get involved. For more information, contact Jill Gossett at jgossett@allsaintsatlanta.org.
