A Note From the Rector

Dear Saints,

Happy Labor Day weekend! When I think about the labor that goes on every week at All Saints' I feel such an abundance of gratitude for our staff. This weekend I would like to raise up and give thanks for our sextons, the custodial staff at All Saints' who work so hard behind the scenes to make the whole place hum along. With them, I give thanks for all workers across our nation and invite us all as the Prayer Book's Night Prayer service says so beautifully, to 'never forget that our common life depends upon each other's toil'. May your labor be as a blessing to all those whom it touches.

Peace,

Join us in studying the book The Heartbeat of God: Finding the Sacred in the Middle of Everything by Katharine Jefferts Schori, the presiding bishop of The Episcopal Church from 2006-2015. Members of the clergy will alternate leading this book study in preparation for our Annual Parish Retreat to Kanuga on October 4-6, during which The Rt. Rev. Katharine Jefferts Schori will be our guest speaker. In addition, each week we share a short video on our social media accounts and website for those who wish to participate in the book study remotely, or catch up on previous weeks' sessions at allsaintsatlanta.org/heartbeat-of-god . Click here to purchase the book online through Amazon or click here  and enter your zip code to view a list of bookstores in Atlanta that carry the book (please call the bookstore first to verify). Please note that there is no book study meeting on Sunday, September 8; we invite everyone to attend the ministry fair for Celebration of Ministries Sunday (see Parish Life).  For more information, contact The Rev. Donate Household Items to
a Newly Arrived Refugee Family
Sundays, September 1, 8 and 15, Sign Up Online and Bring Donations to Ellis Hall Foyer
Unfortunately, we must postpone our new refugee family's move-in day (originally scheduled for September 14) due to the federal government's potential zero refugee admissions policy that could be instituted as early as October. Regardless, we are still collecting household items for our new family. Click here to sign-up to donate items, such as light-bulbs, kitchen towels, a toolbox, or a rice cooker. Please bring your donations to the collection bins in Ellis Hall Foyer on Sundays, September 1, 8, or 15. If we are unable to furnish this apartment for our new family, we will donate the items to other families, like the family we're co-sponsoring with another agency. We are creating a Diocesan-wide Refugee Advocacy Consortium on the issue of the potential zero refugee admissions policy and will provide an update as soon as our first advocacy event is scheduled. For more information, contact Louisa Merchant at louisam@allsaintsatlanta.org.

Upgrades to Tate Hall for Recovery Resources of Atlanta Midtown
Over the past few months, Covenant Community has opened a new, daytime center in Tate Hall on our campus to support those seeking long-term recovery from addiction. This center, called Recovery Resources of Atlanta Midtown, hosts 12-step meetings, healthy cooking classes, housing symposiums, yoga for recovery, and much more. In the month of June alone, the center hosted 73 classes or activities and over 1,000 client visits. With the support of our parish and grants from nonprofit foundations and the state government, Covenant Community is excited to refurbish the second floor of Tate Hall with new carpet, paint, ceiling, lighting, and furniture to serve those in recovery in a fresh and dignified space. The refurbishment will start at the end of September or early October; our parish will continue to use Tate Hall on Sundays, and during the rest of the week as needed. Learn more about Recovery Resources of Atlanta Midtown at recoveryresourcesofatlanta.org. If you have questions or would like to get involved, please contact Johnathan Davis, Executive Director of Covenant Community, at jdavis@covenantatlanta.org.

Parking on Sunday Mornings
On Sundays only, we have a few additional parking spaces in a new gravel lot behind the church off of Spring Street (next to Covenant Community). We also continue to have 50 spaces available in the garage of the Bank of America building on North Avenue from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.; the entrance to the garage is across the street from the Negril Village Restaurant.  Please be mindful of parishioners with limited mobility. The parking spaces on West Peachtree Street, in front of the church, are reserved for members who use a cane, walker, wheelchair, or otherwise find getting from the parking lot to the church to be slow or difficult. We also ask that parishioners with full mobility reserve the surface lot for those with limited mobility.

Email Phishing Scams
Please beware of email scams by people who impersonate clergy or members of our community and ask for a "favor" and then ask for money or gift cards.  Learn more.
