A Note From the Rector

Dear Saints,

As our nation struggles to reconcile the lived realities of the violent loss of life with the hope and joy that we share in America, the question is posed of us, the Church, as to what our part might be. At its heart, it is not a question for institutions but for people. For when our hearts are changed, so can the world; when people are moved to live differently, so too can the mechanisms of our common life be more aligned to the values we aspire to live by. Such soul-searching requires partners for dialogue, and prayer, and action. This Sunday, the Rev. Dr. Gary Mason will be with us again, bringing stories of those who continue to struggle for peace and reconciliation in their own troubled times from Belfast to Cape Town to Jerusalem. Gary's witness is to the truth that even in the very face of death, God's grace and love remain, not as religious platitudes but as a life-saving power. I encourage you to bring your whole self to this shared work of reconciliation, starting here on this block, and continuing wherever we are called to love and serve our Lord.

Peace,

Every School Child

In partnership with the Atlanta Speech School and communities of faith across Atlanta, we will toll our bells and observe four minutes of silence at noon on Tuesday, August 20. We invite you to join us in this observance and in breaking the silence on the fifth minute, committing ourselves to making the fifth century one in which every child's voice is heard. For more information, contact The Rev. Dr. Simon Mainwaring at smainwaring@allsaintsatlanta.org.

The Rev. Della Wells Named Rector at
Emmanuel Church
All Saints' own Della Wells has been named Rector at Emmanuel Church in Newport, Rhode Island. Della graduated from the Berkeley Divinity School at Yale in May 2018 and served as a Porter Fellow in Jerusalem for a year, working with St. George's Cathedral, St. George's College, and Jerusalem Peacebuilders, a reconciliation ministry for Israeli, Palestinian, and American teens. Della was ordained in June at St. Martin's in Providence and will begin her new position at Emmanuel Church on September 1. Please join us in congratulating her and praying for her as she begins her ministry there.

Where do you see Jesus?
During your travels, activities, and adventures this summer, take Jesus along with you...and tell us about it! Pick up a Flat Jesus in Ellis Hall Foyer, take photos throughout the summer, and post them on social media with the hashtag #ASECFlatJesus. Tag us in your photos ( Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter), or email them to Jocelyn Cassada, our Director of Digital Communications. Visit the Flat Jesus page on our website to see where he's been so far. For more information, contact Jocelyn Cassada at jcassada@allsaintsatlanta.org.

Update: Summer Parking on Sunday Mornings
On Sundays only, we have a few additional parking spaces in a new gravel lot behind the church off of Spring Street (next to Covenant Community). We also continue to have 50 spaces available in the garage of the Bank of America building on North Avenue on Sundays from 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.; the entrance to the garage is across the street from the Negril Village Restaurant. Please be mindful of parishioners with limited mobility. The parking spaces on West Peachtree Street, in front of the church, are reserved for members who use a cane, walker, wheelchair, or otherwise find getting from the parking lot to the church to be slow or difficult. We also ask that parishioners with full mobility reserve the surface lot for those with limited mobility.

Summer Church Office Hours
During the summer months, the church office closes at 2:30 p.m. on Fridays to give the staff extra time to enjoy the summer. In the event of a pastoral emergency, please call 404-881-0835 and the message you hear will direct you to the clergy on call.

Email Phishing Scams
Please beware of email scams by people who impersonate clergy or members of our community and ask for a "favor" and then ask for money or gift cards.  Learn more.
