A Note From the Rector
Dear Saints,
This Sunday our Diocesan Bishop Rob Wright will be with us for what the church formally calls the 'Episcopal Visitation'. It's an ecclesiastical phrase that tries to capture a number of things at once. Primarily, Bishop Wright will be with us on Sunday as our chief pastor, preaching and presiding at the Eucharist and so offering a reminder to us that our shared ministry here on this block finds its unity with the wider Episcopal Church through his ministry and leadership. Bishop Wright will also confirm, receive, and reaffirm a number of our community, as they publicly profess their commitment to the life of faith we share in this place. In addition to previous years' practice, as part of the reception in Ellis Hall the bishop will also lead a forum on the nature of his and our vocation to be people who are committed to the public life of this city. All of this goes to the heart of the ministry of bishops, as those who convene and gather the church to then bless them to serve God in the world. Bishops remind us of our apostolic calling, to be those who are sent to follow Jesus beyond the familiar, striving for God's Kingdom of justice, mercy, and peace in all places and among all people. I do hope that, wherever your journey takes you this weekend, you will be inspired to love as Christ loves us, and receive the gift of our life together as a living emblem of the change you seek to see in the world God has made and continues to transform.
