A Note From the Rector
Dear Saints,
This Sunday is a day of farewells and new beginnings. At the end of seven years of ministry at All Saints', where so much has been offered to so many, Tim Black will be presiding and preaching for the last time at the 10:00 a.m. service. Following the service we will hold a reception honoring Tim, as we give thanks together for his life among us. Tim has journeyed with the saints of all ages. There are many college students out there who can look back on their youth at All Saints' and remember with fondness Tim's love and care for them. Care for others has been a theme of Tim's ministry for all the age groups in the parish, and as an interim role, I am very happy to announce that The Rev. Dr. Denni Moss will take over Tim's leadership of pastoral care at All Saints' as a priest associate. Denni has been an active part of the All Saints' family for many years, and has already been serving as one of our clergy on the pastoral care team. We are delighted that she will be leading that team for this next several months.
With thanksgiving for the ministry of all the baptized in this place.

Sunday, August 4, 11:15 a.m., Ellis Hall, Parish House
Join us for a reception to celebrate the ministry of The Rev. Tim Black as his time at All Saints' comes to a close. Tim has served our parish faithfully and lovingly, and we are richer for his years of ministry here. Gather with us to celebrate Tim and express our gratitude his service.

|
Please join us in welcoming The Rev. Dr. Denni Moss as our Interim Priest Associate for Pastoral Care. Denni is a certified clinical chaplain and pastoral counselor who has served as the rector of two churches in north Georgia, as well as in chaplain positions for Georgia Tech, Covenant Community, and a maximum security prison. Most recently, she has served as a pastoral counselor at Canterbury Court. Denni is an avid reader who is passionate about Education for Ministry (EfM) and helping people experience God in the everyday. She holds degrees from Mercer University and Seabury Western Theological Seminary. She and her husband, The Rev. Dr. David Moss, met at All Saints' and have been married for 35 years. They have two children and four of the smartest, nicest, best looking grandchildren you can possibly imagine.

Giving
When did American churches begin passing the offering plate during church services? Colonial American churches did not depend on voluntary, weekly giving from their members. Instead, as had been the case in Europe, the government supported churches; depending on churches to produce citizens of good character. This funding ceased years after the American Revolution. In the late 19th century the tradition of placing money in the plate each week became an act of worship and the way to support the ministry of the church. Even in this day of online payments, All Saints' still carries a budget line item for "plate offering." We thank you for your offering on Sundays.
