Assisting in Worship

Acolytes

Any young person in grades 7-12 may take an active role in worship by serving as an acolyte. Acolytes are trained and then assigned to serve approximately once a month, primarily on Sundays, alternating between the 9:00 and 11:15 services, as well as at festival services.

Altar Guild

The Altar Guild is responsible for cleaning the silver and brass, preparing for all services, and changing the colors of the hangings in the church to conform to the seasons and sacraments.

Baptismal Banners Committee

Every baptismal service at All Saints’ begins with a procession of banners created by members of this committee. The felt banners, bearing the names of the newly baptized, are given as keepsakes when the service is over.

Flower Guild

In addition to flowers for weddings and the Sunday altars, the Flower Guild provides festal floral decorations for Christmas Eve, Easter, and All Saints’ Sunday.

Eucharistic Ministers

Parishioners are trained and licensed to serve at Eucharists. Committing to a three-year term, EMs may be asked to assist at any of the four Sunday services.

Lectors

Parishioners are recruited and trained to serve as Sunday lectors and intercessors for terms of one, two, or three years. They may be asked to read at any of the four services and on special occasions.

Sunday Callers

Each Sunday, members of this group deliver altar flowers to parishioners who are hospitalized, homebound, or simply in need of a little cheer.

Ushers

Our ushers extend a friendly welcome to parishioners and visitors at each service. Working in teams for three months each year, they help seat people, distribute bulletins, pass the alms basins, and assist newcomers in finding their way around the church grounds. Any confirmed parishioner may train for this work.

Vergers

After training sponsored by the Verger’s Guild of the Episcopal Church, our vergers direct and coordinate those involved in our worship services.

Wedding Guild

Members of this parish ministry assist clergy and couples with the choreography of wedding rehearsals and the liturgy of the marriage service.
