Children’s Worship

Services specifically designed for our three year olds through third graders occur during the 9 a.m. hour. These worship times provide a chance to read or tell a Bible story giving the children opportunities to ask questions and make comments. Appropriate music is sung and both services include prayers, a creed and blessings.

Children’s Blessing

God be in my head,
God be in my heart.
God be in my left hand,
God be in my right hand,
God be in my whole life.
Thanks be to God.
Amen.

Children’s Creed

I believe in God the Father, who has made me and all the world.
I believe in God the Son, who loves me and saves me.
I believe in God the Holy Spirit, who is in me and all creation. Amen.

Children older than third grade attend services with their parents.

Children’s Church for Children in Kindergarten – Third Grade

Children’s Church on the second floor of the Pritchett Center, Children’s Chapel. Worship is led by Kathy Roberts and a member of the music staff, with the support of parent volunteers.

Children in kindergarten through third grade join their parents in the church during the announcements and the Peace (save them a seat!). Please Stand as they come in so they can find you. Children’s Church leaders and parent volunteers walk the children over to the church and remain until all parents and children are matched up.

Parents are always welcome to join us for a Children’s Church service.

Children’s Church with Holy Eucharist for Kindergarten – Third Grade

9:00 – 10:00 a.m. Once a month
Once a month, the Holy Eucharist is celebrated by on of our priest as a part of Children’s Church for kindergarten through third grade. This service is worshipful and informative and follows the Book of Common Prayer. In many ways, this service is an instructed Eucharist in that time is taken to explain the meaning of a Eucharistic act or phrase and the children have a good view of the altar and all that the priest does. The children begin to learn the words and patterns of our liturgy, practicing responses and prayers. Parents are always welcome to join us for a Children’s Church Communion service.

Baptism Sundays

On the days we celebrate baptisms, the kindergarten through third grade children begin in Children’s Church and then come into the church and remain in the altar area to be a part of the baptismal service. They join their parents immediately after the baptisms.

Ash Wednesday

A specially designed 30-minute service for children is held at 5 p.m. in the chapel on Ash Wednesday. The service includes the imposition of ashes and a reflection on the meaning of Ash Wednesday and Lent, and includes music. Communion is not offered at this service.

Holy Week Service for Children

A specially designed 30-minute service for children is held at 5 p.m. in the chapel on the Wednesday in Holy Week. This service includes lessons from the week, a brief homily and the stripping of the chapel altar.

Family Stations of the Cross

Walk the Stations of the Cross together and create a new Lenten tradition for your family. The symbols at each station are meant to be picked up and touched. This multi-sensory event adds a new dimension to imagining Jesus’ walk towards his death and resurrection. Children take home a booklet explaining the story and symbols.
